A bicycle-riding stick-up man may have gotten more than he bargained for when he robbed a Boulder First Bank today, police said.
Witnesses spotted a puff of red smoke coming from his jacket pocket as he left the bank – an indication that a dye pack went off.
“If a dye pack did go off, the money would be stained red,” Boulder police spokeswoman Julie Brooks said in a release.
The man entered the bank, located inside King Soopers at 3600 Table Mesa Drive just after 1:30 p.m. today and handed the teller a note demanding money. He didn’t show a weapon.
He was last seen riding a bike south from the building.
The suspect is described as a white male, about 6’2″ tall and 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a green and black winter jacket and sunglasses and had a gray scarf wrapped around his face. He was also wearing white knit gloves. He may be in his mid 20s to early 30s.
