Colorado guard Bianca Smith was named Big 12 women’s basketball player of the week Monday.

Smith led the Buffaloes to back-to-back victories over ranked opponents Wyoming and Vanderbilt in the past week, averaging 19 points in the two games off the bench. Colorado’s 69-55 victory over No. 21 Wyoming broke a 23-game losing streak for the Buffs against ranked teams.

Smith scored a career-high 22 points in Colorado’s 62-51 victory over No. 20 Vanderbilt. She becomes the first CU player this season to win Big 12 player of the week.

* Wyoming sophomore Aubrey Vandiver was named Mountain West Conference women’s co-player of the week. Wyoming won the Hawkeye Classic Challenge last weekend, and Vandiver was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

Rage defenseman named CHL player of week.

Rocky Mountain Rage defenseman Tyler Butler, who scored three goals and seven points in the Rage’s three victories last week, was named the Central Hockey League’s player of the week.
