Venerable ski industry pioneer Klaus Obermeyer hung out the “Gone Skiing” sign and headed up Aspen Mountain to celebrate his 88th birthday in more than a foot of fresh snow Friday. The founder of Sport Obermeyer apparel company still skis 100 days a year, thanks in part to the “6-inch rule” he initiated at the 60-year-old company in 1998 as a way to promote skiing and snowboarding on days when Aspen is at its best.
