GOLDEN — A former Cub Scout pack treasurer must write a letter of apology to the boys after pleading guilty to taking more than $2,700 from the Morrison-based group’s bank account.

Sheila Lamotte, 41, of Morrison was sentenced Monday in Jefferson County District Court to two years of probation. Lamotte, who pleaded guilty to attempted theft, paid $500 in restitution and must pay $1,500 over the next two years. She also must perform community service.

Her probation will be supervised in Illinois, where she now lives.

Leaders of Cub Scout Pack 815 alerted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in April that Lamotte appeared to have written checks to herself and to her mother.

Lamotte served as treasurer for the pack from May 2006 to January 2007.

“We’re very pleased with the sentence,” said Kirk Andersen, the pack’s Webelos leader. “It was fair, and everyone got what needed to happen.”

Andersen said pack leaders asked that Lamotte write a letter to the Scouts. The letter must be sent in the next 30 days.

“The kids don’t know a whole lot. We kept it quiet,” Andersen said. “Some nice people stepped up and gave $1,200 in donations to the pack, which definitely will carry us over to our fundraisers.”

Andersen said the Scout leaders are relieved. “We just wanted to put this portion of our history behind us.”
