A rapist wanted in a 1992 cold case pleaded guilty in Denver District Court on Tuesday to first-degree sexual assault charges.
Michael Hicks, 51, attacked a 32-year-old woman on Aug. 21, 1992 after breaking into her home while she was sleeping in the 1200 block of Clermont Street.
The victim woke up and Hicks was standing at the edge of her bed holding a knife, authorities said.
Hicks was in prison on an unrelated sexual assault and burglary case and was required to submit his DNA into a database.
The 1992 assault was reviewed by Denver’s Cold Case DNA project and resulted in identifying Hicks as a suspect.
Hicks is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 19
