Lockheed Martin Space Systems, based in Jefferson County, will build a spacecraft called the Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory, NASA announced after a Monday meeting of the American Geophysical Union.

The $375 million spacecraft is scheduled to launch in 2011 to orbit around the moon and measure its gravity field for a better understanding of how Earth and other planets formed.
