DES MOINES, Iowa — Ah, that Florida primary looks pretty good right now.An ice storm coated much of Iowa early Tuesday, forcing candidates and a former president to cancel campaign events. The storm left more than 60,000 customers in the state without power, schools throughout the state canceled classes and planes were grounded at the Des Moines airport for most of the morning. In some spots, ice was up to an inch thick.

“I’m a Southern boy, and when we see weather like this, we close everything,” former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said after the wintry weather delayed his arrival in Iowa and forced the cancellation of several stops.

John Edwards called off his public events, as did Mitt Romney’s wife, Ann, and former President Clinton, campaigning for his wife, Hillary. Michelle Obama, the wife of Barack Obama, also postponed a trip to Iowa.
