Saturday offered one of the coldest mornings of the season, but warmer temperatures and sunshine are forecast for the rest of the weekend.

It will be a sunny and cold day across the metro denver area today, with a high of 31 degrees expected. Tonight’s low could fall into single-digits.

Northwest winds will increase over the higher mountains today and spread to the foothills by this evening. Gusts as high as 45 miles-per-hour are possible. The winds will produce areas of blowing snow as well as wind chills as low as 25 degrees below-zero in exposed areas above 9,000 feet.

Flurries fell throughout Friday, but only an inch or two of snow accumulated in Denver.

Highs on Friday were in the low 20s and were forecast to drop sharply overnight as the storm moved out.

The storm is one in a recent series that has done especially well by the mountain ski resorts.

Winter Park reported 11 inches of new snow over the past 24 hours through Friday morning. Crested Butte has had 26 inches in the past three days.

Metro skies on Saturday will be sunny again, with a high around 30. Overnight lows will be in the teens.

Sunday’s high of 38 could begin a bit of a thaw, with no more snow in the extended forecast until Wednesday.
