One of three people indicted on charges of stealing $80,000 in merchandise from metro area convenience stores was sentenced this week to 14 years in prison.

Kenneth Daniel Cortez, 44, pleaded guilty Monday to violating the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act (COCCA) and was sentenced after his plea.

Two co-defendants in the case, Anita Jean Duran, 47, and Eugenia Isabel Duran, 24, were indicted with Cortez in January of 2007 by a Jefferson County Grand Jury.

The criminal cases against Anita and Eugenia Duran are ongoing, according to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors say the trio went into convenience stores in Lakewood, Westminster and other metro area locations and one would distract a clerk while the others stole items such as cell phones and cigarettes.
