RTD says it expects the Southwest light-rail line to be fully operational in time for the commuter rush Monday morning.
The southern-most portion of the C and D lines has been closed for four days after a Union Pacific coal train derailed early Tuesday morning. Tons of coal spilled onto adjacent light-rail tracks, causing a light-rail train to derail as well.
The light-rail train remained upright, however, and there were no reported injuries.
Commuters have been bused from Mineral station to Oxford station while the track is being worked on.
Assuming Union Pacific can complete all the repairs this weekend, RTD workers hope to restore electric service to the rails and get the commuter trains running by Monday.
To be sure that the lines have reopened, commuters on Monday may visit the RTD website — www.RTD-Denver.com — or call 303-299-6000.
