The holidays can drive some to drink.

However, a Garfield County man, his sister and his son should reconsider driving anywhere after a traffic stop by sheriff’s deputies turned into a family affair. Deputies pulled a car over last week in Silt for having faulty turn signal lamps and determined that the 17-year-old boy behind the wheel didn’t have a driver’s license.

The owner of the vehicle, the boy’s aunt, Kimberly Maria Otero, 20, was called to the scene. When she arrived, deputies determined she was driving under a suspended or revoked license and had no vehicle registration.

Finally, the boy’s father was called to pick him up. When his father, Homero Otero-Ordonez, arrived, deputies said, he was intoxicated, which, as it turns out, is a violation of a court-issued restraining order.

Otero-Ordonez faces charges of violation of a restraining order.

“No wonder the kids are having trouble making good decisions in their lives when the adults aren’t either,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Tanny McGinnis said.
