A 65-year-old Evergreen man was struck and killed by a car as he tried to cross Highway 74 last night at the intersection of Brookline Road in Jefferson County.

James Steele was pronounced dead by the Jefferson County coroner following the 7:37 p.m. accident, according to Trooper Ryan Sullivan of the Colorado State Patrol.

Nathan Meader, 23, of Conifer, who was the driver of the white Mazda MX6 car that struck Steele as he was headed west on Highway 74, was treated for minor injuries at the scene, Sullivan said.

The crash remains under investigation.
