DENVER—In a Dec. 17 story about electronic voting equipment, The Associated Press erroneously reported a comment by Peter Lichtenheld, spokesman for manufacturer Hart InterCivic. Lichtenheld said improperly maintained machines could cause the ballots to become dirty during testing, and that dirt could look like a voter’s mark. He did not say that the testing method used by Colorado officials could punch holes in paper ballots.
