The Denver Post will present its 57th Gold Helmet, an annual award honoring Colorado’s top senior football player, scholar and citizen. It is the state’s most prestigious and longest-running award for student-athletes, and began in 1951.
BRONCOS COACHES OF THE WEEK, YEAR
Pinkerton leads parade. The Broncos’ 2007 high school coaches of the week and coach of the year will be noted. Tim Owens of Thomas Jefferson, Bret McGatlin of Chatfield, George Purnell of Holyoke, Mike Griebel of Heritage, Mike Woolford of Regis, Jason Catron of Falcon, Doug Johnson of Longmont, Paul Griese of Woodlin, Todd Matkin of Highland and Rocky Whitworth of Glenwood Springs experienced an assortment of thrillers, upsets and milestone moments. Each will receive $1,000 for his program through National Football League Charities.
Monte Pinkerton is the Broncos’ high school coach of the year after leading Pueblo West to the Class 4A state championship. Pinkerton will receive $2,000 for the Cyclones and is the 12th winner of the award.
The coaches were selected by a panel consisting of Neil H. Devlin, The Denver Post; Billy Thompson, the Broncos; and Andy Lindahl, KKZN 760 AM.
