Will there be a white Christmas for Denver? Possibly, but it might just be wet, as the city stands a chance of rain on the holiday.

In the meantime, Denver area weather should be mild today and tomorrow, before snowfall that’s expected on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Today and tomorrow in Denver will be partly sunny with high temperatures climbing into the upper 40s and lower 50s. Overnight lows should be in the upper 20s in and around the city.

Snow, out of the west, should develop in the mountains late Thursday afternoon or Thursday night before spreading onto the eastern plains.

The Denver area stands a 60 percent chance of snow on Friday with a high temperature around 30 degrees, the weather service reports.

The snowfall amounts will be about the same as the past few systems here and the approaching front should leave about 1 to 3 inches on the plains with slightly higher amounts in the foothills and mountains. The system is expected to be short-lived.

Saturday should be partly sunny in Denver but cold with a high temperature near 23 degrees. Sunday is expected to be mostly sunny and warmer with a high near 39 degrees.

Monday, Christmas Eve, Denver’s weather should mirror Sunday’s, just slightly warmer with a high temperature of 43 degrees.

Partly cloudy skies on Tuesday, Christmas Day, could bring a slight chance of snow, or rain, to Denver, with a high in the lower 40s, the weather service said.
