Ralph Vincent Martin was sentenced to 60 days in jail today for unlawful sexual contact with a patient recovering from neck surgery at Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver.
The victim did not appear in Denver District Court to make a statement because she wanted to avoid the trauma, said Deputy District Attorney Christine Washburn.
“This event continues to take an emotional toll on her. She did not want to see the defendant again,” Washburn told Judge William Robbins.
Martin, 43, had been working as a monitor technician at the hospital. On Nov. 16, he entered the victim’s room and touched her while she was recovering.
Martin was fired.
During the sentencing, Martin apologized to the victim and said he was getting help for his behavior.
The judge said he didn’t think the jail sentence was tough enough but honored the plea agreement Martin made with prosecutors.
“Sixty days is generous, to say the least,” Robbins said.
Martin also was ordered to pay $1,950 in victim restitution and will be on probation for five years.
