The Fantastic Front Range Reunion Tour for Colorado coach Jeff Bzdelik and assistant Steve McClain finally grinds to a close Saturday when the Buffs travel to Fort Collins for the annual in-state showdown, of sorts, with Colorado State.

Bzdelik is 2-0 on the tour, beating his former school (Air Force) and then his AFA predecessor (once removed) Joe Scott at the University of Denver. McClain is 0-1 in his former Wyoming stomping grounds.

Combined, Bzdelik and McClain have made 11 trips to Moby Arena’s visiting bench and Bzdelik is unbeaten in both visits with the Falcons.

“I’m sure some of their fans who sit behind our bench will welcome us there,” McClain said, tongue in cheek. He knows that between his Wyoming history and current CU allegiance, he represents the perfect storm to incite Rams fans.

It matters not the color of his team’s jersey, McClain said. “It seems like you are going back in the same environment.”

Although the Air Force trip was emotional for Bzdelik, he tries to downplay all the Front Range angles. “To me every game is a rivalry.”
