At 6 feet, 11 inches, Denver Nuggets center Marcus Cambystands head and shoulders above the crowd. His height serves him well on the basketball court, but it has nothing to do with his role as an outstanding humanitarian. Especially when it comes to children and holidays.
For the fifth Christmas in a row, Camby took a group of children from low-income families shopping, an excursion that was much more than giving them a lift to the mall.
Although their ride was pretty cool.
On Wednesday afternoon, Camby arrived at Cope Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs in a stretch Hummer to pick up 15 of the young members and take them to Macy’s Cherry Creek. He gave each an autographed jersey — and $150 to spend on family gifts.
When they finished, they received a big suprise: gifts for each of them, courtesy of the store.
That’s the spirit
On Thursday, students from 15 elementary and middle schools, including William Roberts Elementary, the Logan School for Creative Learning and Denison Montessori, met at the Young Americans Bank in Cherry Creek for a count-a- thon that was the grand finale to the first Penny Harvest conducted by the Young Philanthropists Foundation. The $10,000 that was raised will be given to charities of the students’ choice.
