The Denver Urban Renewal Authority on Friday said the Denver Health and Hospital Authority has purchased a portion of the Dahlia Square redevelopment site on the corner of East 33rd Avenue and Elm Street.

The hospital authority will begin construction of its new Family Practice Center shortly. Additionally, Oakwood Homes will purchase the balance of the property in 2008 for future residential development.

The 8-acre site, which has undergone environmental remediation, once housed a shopping center. Redevelopment of the site had been delayed for years, as the result of numerous snags, including the discovery of a landfill on the site.
