With a different ecological theme every Saturday, Beaver Creek Resort’s Ski with a Ranger program offers a new opportunity each week to learn how to love your favorite runs on the mountain even more. Holy Cross District snow ranger Don Dressler has designed an environmental education program with tangible tips ranging from flora and fauna identification to local geography, and even some insider edification on what it takes to open up the ski area for the season.

“It’s a natural extension of what the Forest Service is trying to do: Engage people on public lands,” Dressler said. “We’re trying to get people to look up from the tips of their skis and appreciate what we have here and how skiing plays into it.”

The hour-long tours kicked off this month, leaving at 1:30 p.m. every Saturday throughout the winter from the Environmental Learning Center at the top of Beaver Creek’s Cinch Express Lift (Chair No. 8) on a kid-friendly skiing circuit over primarily beginner terrain.

Some intermediate skiing also is possible, depending on the ability level of the group.

Despite the “ski-centric” title, snowboarders are welcome to join the free program, although all participants must purchase lift tickets first.
