An Eagle County man faces attempted murder and domestic violence charges after he shot himself with a nail gun by accident Monday while allegedly demonstrating how he was going to kill his companion, authorities said.

Jose Sosa Vasquez, 28, also faces charges of felony menacing, false imprisonment and wire-tapping, authorities said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded about 4 a.m. Monday to a home in the 100 block of Ermine Lane, in El Jebel, They found Vasquez bleeding from his mouth and chest.

An unidentified woman at the home told a deputy in sign language that Vasquez had hurt her and threated to kill her with the nail gun. She tried to call 911, but Vasquez allegedly grabbed the phone from her and threw it, authorities said.

Authorities did not say how Vasquez and the woman are associated.

Vasquez was admitted Valley View Hospital with round the clock supervision until he can be transported to the Eagle County Detention facility where bond will be determined, authorities said.
