COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A 67-year-old man died in a fire that destroyed a Security home early Wednesday, and his wife was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation, firefighters said.

A neighbor reported the fire at 1:55 a.m.

Robert Emerson’s body was found in a second-story bedroom by firefighters searching through the debris of the home. His wife, Carrie Emerson, 51, was hospitalized in stable condition, Security Fire Department Chief Robert Stambaugh said.

Robert Emerson reportedly had left the house when the fire started but re-entered for an unknown reason, firefighters said.

The cause of the fire had not been determined.
