JOHNSTOWN, Colo.—Zoe Garcia loved jumping rope, being with her relatives and making those around her happy, family and friends said Saturday.

More than 100 friends and family gathered at a church in snow-covered fields to remember the 7-year-old girl who died Dec. 6.

No mention was made of her stepsister Heather Trujillo, 16, and Trujillo’s boyfriend, Lamar Roberts, 17, who were accused of beating and kicking Zoe while imitating the video game “Mortal Kombat.”

Instead, mourners shared memories of Zoe.

Her father wore a shirt with words of love written over his heart. “In loving memory of our beloved,” the shirt read. “Zoe Savannah Garcia.”

“She was just a happy, beautiful girl, and we’re going to miss her so much. But we’re all lucky because we got to know her,” said her aunt Erika Hoffman.
