FORT COLLINS, COLO. — About 20 animals have been seized from the Animal Angels Horse Rescue ranch in Fort Collins amid concerns about their well-being.

Some of the animals are horses but it’s not clear how many.

Larimer County sheriff’s deputies and other authorities took the animals to the county fairgrounds near Loveland Saturday morning, where they will be housed temporarily.

Authorities also seized documents about the animals’ ownership.

Deputies have been investigating the welfare of about 70 horses at the ranch.

Also participating in the investigation are the county Humane Society, Colorado State University veterinarians and the Colorado Bureau of Animal Protection.

No phone number could be found for the rescue ranch or its operator, Alesha Matchett.
