Law-enforcement officers gathered early Saturday at the National Guard Armory in Denver for a group photo before they ship off to Iraq to support security efforts at a Ramadi jail.
The officers, from police and sheriff’s departments throughout the state, are part of a company from the 220th Army National Guard leaving for Iraq in mid-January.
Because it’s a military police group, several of the civilians are full-time officers.
The 135 soldiers will provide security to people jailed in Ramadi.
“I think it’s going to be rewarding,” said Kim Martinez a 39-year-old Westminster cop who’s on her fifth deployment. “Maybe we’ll see the end of it.”
