SANTA CLARA, CALIF. — Nate Rohnert scored a season-high 16 points and Denver held off a fierce rally to beat Morgan State 54-44 in the consolation game of the Cable Car Classic on Saturday night.
Adam Tanner and David Kummer each added 10 points as the Pioneers improved to 5-7.
Jamar Smith scored 18 points to lead the Bears (6-6), who lost their second straight.
The Bears played without Reggie Holmes, their second-leading scorer at 16.1, for the second straight night. Holmes sustained a high ankle sprain during practice.
Wisconsin-Milwaukee 80, Wyoming 66
Paige Paulsen scored 26 points for the Panthers (5-7), who led by as many as 25 points before the Cowboys (5-6) went on a 37-18 run to pull within 69-63 with 2:27 remaining.
But Milwaukee scored 11 of the final 14 points to seal the win. Brandon Ewing led Wyoming with 24 points, and Travis Nelson added 13.
Deonte Roberts had 17 points and nine assists for the Panthers, and Ricky Franklin scored 13 points.
Colorado State 87, Western State 47
Western State (5-6) took an early 16-14 lead. After taking a timeout, Colorado State went on a 9-0 run to lead 23-16. The Rams (6-7) led 40-30 at halftime.
CSU opened the second half with a 23-7 run to take a 63-37 lead. Jeremy Brooks and Matt Pennetti each had 10 points to lead the Mountaineers.
