MONTROSE, Colo.—Montrose County officials are ironing out details for a community corrections facility to be built next to the county justice center in Montrose.
Community corrections is an alternative to prison for people convicted of minor crimes. Inmates are monitored, get training and counseling and are required to hold jobs and pay room and board.
Montrose County currently sends its community corrections inmates to centers elsewhere.
Officials had settled on another location but that plan was scuttled in March after residents complained the site was too close to a school and a neighborhood.
The facility would be built and operated by Intervention Community Corrections Services under a contract with the Seventh Judicial District Community Corrections Board.
