TUNIS, Tunisia — A court handed down death sentences Sunday for two Islamic militants convicted in connection with deadly clashes with security officials.
Saber Ragoubi, 24, and Imed Ben Ameur, 34, were convicted on charges that included “inciting the population to kill one another” and “provoking disorder and death on Tunisian territory within the framework of a terrorist plot.”
Eight other defendants were sentenced to life in prison on the same charges, while 20 others received sentences ranging from five to 30 years in prison on lesser charges, including possessing explosives.
