Face it, you’re counting down the days to next season.
You’ve relived the draft and, if you’re in a keeper league, you’re thinking about which stars will continue to shine and which sleepers could become stars in 2008.
Free agency, the draft and who and how many players you can keep breed unpredictability, but let’s give it a shot.
Three soon-to-be-bigger stars: David Garrard (QB, Jaguars), Adrian Peterson (RB, Vikings), Brandon Marshall (WR, Broncos).
Top unrestricted free agents: Randy Moss (WR, Patriots), Jamal Lewis (RB, Browns), Julius Jones (RB, Cowboys), Justin Fargas (RB, Raiders).
Unrestricted free-agent sleepers: Michael Turner (RB, Chargers), Bryant Johnson (WR, Cardinals),
Andre Davis (WR, Texans), Patrick Crayton (WR, Cowboys), D.J. Hackett (WR, Seahawks), Justin Gage (WR, Titans), Terrance Copper (WR, Saints).
Top restricted free agents: Derek Anderson (QB, Browns), Marion Barber (RB, Cowboys), Derrick Ward (RB, Giants).
Choose wisely.
FIVE STARS THAT SHINED
Tom Brady, QB, Patriots: The third or fourth QB taken in most leagues, his pursuit of perfection made for a fantasy owner’s dream.
Randy Moss, WR, Patriots: Mr. Moody was too busy catching touchdown passes to frown.
Tony Romo, QB, Cowboys: Two reliable targets and a good running game translated into big points nearly every week.
LaDainian Tomlinson, RB, Chargers: Not as good as last season, but still the top scoring running back in most leagues.
Brian Westbrook, RB, Eagles: Sorely underrated, but he quietly puts up points each season.
FIVE STARS THAT FADED
Marvin Harrison, WR, Colts: His durability took a shot but redemption could come in the playoffs.
Travis Henry, RB, Broncos: Wasn’t he supposed to run for miles? His stats went to, er, pot.
Steven Jackson, RB, Rams: Still think taking the preseason off to stay fresh was a good idea?
Larry Johnson, RB, Chiefs: Late arrival to camp aside, the offensive line turned him human.
Rudi Johnson, RB, Bengals: Injuries, a mediocre offensive line and a defense that took away the run by giving up points combined to make him a nonfactor.
