COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Work on a massive widening project on Interstate 25 in Colorado Springs is scheduled to wrap up this New Year’s Eve.

The $150 million project began in mid-2005. Work included adding one lane in each direction and rebuilding several bridges over the interstate.

The project was dubbed COSMIX, for Colorado Springs Metro Interstate Expansion.

I-25 was originally designed to handle 8,500 vehicles a day in Colorado Springs, but it now handles more than 100,000.
