Anthony Harris and his wife, Carnita, would have celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary on New Year’s Eve. Instead, Harris is dead, and the couple’s 3-year-old daughter, Niara, is clinging to life after a rollover accident Saturday.
Harris, 36, was killed as he and the girl were returning to their North City Park home. The car flipped and rolled twice after hitting the median at Colorado Boulevard and East Ninth Avenue.
“He and the baby were coming home by themselves. He was coming from a friend’s house, where they had been to watch the game,” said Carnita Groves, the mother of Harris’ wife.
Niara, who will turn 4 at the end of this month, was taken to Children’s Hospital with a head injury, her grandmother said. The couple has another daughter, Imani, 2.
Harris, a warehouse worker, had no life insurance or health coverage, and friends have started a fund to help with the girl’s medical expenses. Donations for the family can be sent to Washington Mutual Bank, 1723 S. Logan St., Denver, CO 80210.
