DETROIT — A man was arraigned Sunday on child-abuse charges in the beating of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son that was captured on a store surveillance tape.
The video from Dec. 21 shows a man hitting, kicking and stepping on a child over a four-minute span. The man is seen hitting the child with a cooler door and pauses when others walk nearby.
Joseph Gray, 27, of Detroit was arrested Friday night after viewers saw his photo on televised news reports that also broadcast portions of the tape.
Police said investigators were told by the boy’s relatives that the child was OK.
