SALT LAKE CITY — Investigators found a data recorder and video equipment in the wreckage of a tour bus that may help them determine why it careened off a two-lane highway and rolled down an embankment, killing nine people, authorities said Tuesday.

It wasn’t immediately known whether the equipment would yield clues to what caused the Sunday night crash, said Bridget Ann Serchak, a spokeswoman for the National Transportation Safety Board.

The bus plunged 41 feet down an embankment near Mexican Hat in the Four Corners area. The bus’ roof was sheared off, ejecting most of the 51 passengers, who were returning to the Phoenix area from a ski trip in Telluride.
