Getting your player ready...

While the Rockies continued adding insurance with the signing of second baseman Marcus Giles, they weren’t the only team busy on Tuesday.

A number of teams signed players with familiar names, most notably the Mets by bringing in infielder Fernando Tatis. Tatis, a one-time star for the St. Louis Cardinals, signed a minor-league deal with $78,000 guaranteed. He will make $560,000 if he makes the big league club.

Former Rockies’ farmhand Luke Hudson avoided arbitration with the Royals, signing a $475,000 deal with $50,000 in incentives if he makes 25 starts.

The Royals also added catcher Ken Huckaby on a minor-league deal.

Milwaukee re-upped with reliever Brian Shouse for $2 million. He posted a 3.02 ERA in 73 games last season.

Tatis hit 34 home runs for the Cardinals in 1997. He last played in the big leagues for the Baltimore Orioles in 2006, appearing in 28 games after a three-year hiatus from the majors.
