BEAVER CREEK LODGE

26 Avondale Lane, Beaver Creek, CO, 800-525-7280,

Rates: During the ski season start at $799 per night for suites that feature one- bedrooms with queen- or king-size beds, sleeper sofas in the full-size living rooms, gas fireplaces, small dining areas and kitchenettes with microwaves and mini-refrigerators. In the summer, you often can find an online deal for under $200. Two- and three-bedroom condos also are available. Valet parking in the heated garage is $20 per day.

Stay here if you’re: Well, able to afford it, obviously, and looking for a lovely spot in the thick of things at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain.

It’s close to: The mountain out the back door and the village out the front.

The rooms are: Classy and clean, filled with leather accents, down comforters, granite counters and other mountain-style furnishings. You get a lot of space. L’Occitane products, free Wi-Fi, plasma TV in the bedroom.

They put all of the money into: Keeping the space well-maintained.

The bottom line: An excellent property. The staff is helpful and friendly, the public spaces are warm and inviting, and the fitness center and pool are nice. Rocks Modern Grill gets an odd crowd, though (read: families trying to relax among scantily clad singles), especially at the bar, which can be filled with loud après-skiers. The dessert menu is fabulous, but the regular menu is on the dull side, and the execution can be mixed.
