Getting your player ready...

Adrian Monk would agree with Carolina Hurricanes player Glen Wesley’s actions. The San Francisco detective from the television series “Monk” has obsessive-compulsive disorder. One of his issues is germs, so if he has to shake hands with someone, he immediately cleans his hand with a sanitation wipe.

With the Hurricanes roster hit with the flu bug (four players missed the game Saturday against the Avs, and Wesley told The Associated Press that all but seven players have yet to contract the nagging illness), Wesley politely declined when someone tried to shake his hand.

“Can’t do that,” the veteran defenseman said, his hands squarely in his lap. Nothing personal, but Wesley already has missed three games because of the illness, and he’s not taking any chances of getting it again.

“I’ve never seen anything like this happen on a team,” Wesley said.
