Among the new bills introduced at the statehouse are measures that would:
• Require that U.S. flags displayed by government entities be made in the United States.
• Provide an income-tax deduction for a landowner’s direct costs incurred for wildfire mitigation.
• Authorize the secretary of state to investigate potential violations of charitable solicitation laws and set fines for violations.
• Make it a felony to threaten, harass or harm someone in retaliation against a judge.
• Make it a misdemeanor for a gun owner to fail to prevent injuries from unsupervised access to firearms by minors.
• Increase fees for registering sources of ozone-depleting compounds, emissions of regulated and hazardous air pollutants, and significant users of prescribed fires.
• Create an Alzheimer’s coordinating council to develop a state plan to address an increase in cases of the disease.
• Prohibit employers from requiring anyone to join a labor union or pay dues or fees as a condition of employment.
• Require a public-school student who fails to achieve at least partial proficiency on the 10th-grade statewide test in reading, writing or math to take an exit exam in the 11th grade to demonstrate proficiency as a requirement for graduation.
