Denver Post staff writer Neil H. Devlin
looks at the action ahead in high
school sports:

BOYS BASKETBALL

Boys’ nights out. Class 5A Poudre of
Fort Collins on Friday at 7 p.m. will
play at Legacy in Broomfield. The
Impalas, who wilted late Tuesday in
a home loss to rival Rocky Mountain,
figure to be sharp, including
Boston College-bound Dallas
Elmore, who scored 47 of the Impalas’
69 points in a victory last week
against Thornton. It’s the same tipoff
time for Platte Valley at defending
3A champion Eaton, which has
won 28 games in succession, in the
Patriot West. On Saturday, Broomfield
will travel to Fort Collins to
play at Fossil Ridge in the 4A Northern
League-West. Rest for the weekend,
then get set for Rangeview at
ThunderRidge in Highlands Ranch
on Tuesday, 7 p.m., one of the 5A
Continental’s many ones to watch.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Friday night might. The race to handle
Highlands Ranch is on- it will
be visiting Chaparral’s turn Friday
at 7 p.m. In 5A Jeffco, two making
lots of noise will meet early in
league play: Lakewood at Green
Mountain at 7 p.m. Then jump to
Tuesday, when Palmer at Rampart
will be big in the 5A C.S. Metro and
Centaurus at Mountain Range in the
4A Skyline. Both will be at 7 p.m.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Water world. Cold, snow and wind
don’t stop kids from taking a plunge.
Pueblo County will host more than a
dozen southern-area swimming and
diving teams Saturday, 3 p.m., in its
Hornet Invitational.

WRESTLING

Don’t forget. The Top of the Rockies
will dominate weekend action, but
there will be an array of other sites
brimming with activity. Mostly duals
and triangulars, look for pins and
falls Saturday at Berthoud, Buena
Vista, Custer County, Lake County,
Denver Lutheran, Mullen, Peyton
and Salida.

ICE HOCKEY

Ice is nice. Just wondering … Think
we could have an outdoor game, as
they did recently in the NHL? Prep
hockey night in Colorado on Friday
will have multiple offerings. Aspen
will take on Regis at 5:45 p.m. at the
Family Sports Center, and Steamboat
Springs will visit Lewis-Palmer
at 6:30 p.m. at the new Colorado
Sports Center in Monument. Further
ahead, Tuesday’s Ralston Valley
at Peak to Peak (first puck will
drop at 5:45 p.m.) warrants your attention
in a high-end Foothills
matchup.

CHSAA

Hall of Fame, board meeting. The rubber
chicken circuit will have a stop
Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. for the Colorado
High School Activities Association’s
Hall of Fame banquet at the
Radisson Hotel Southeast, Interstate
25 and Parker Road, in Aurora.
Eaton baseball coach Jim Danley;
competitors Greg Browning (deceased,
from Trinidad),
Larry Brunson
(Montezuma-
Cortez) and Daryl
Monasmith (Burlington);
Delta’s Dan
Cholas, competitor,
coach and official; pioneer
female coach
Kathy Francis-Nunnery;
and Frank
Montera (music),
will make it a Hall
getting full with 42 participants, 39
coaches, 23 administrators, 10 officials
and six significant service contributors
enshrined.
The first of two annual board of
control meetings will be Thursday,
Jan. 24, with the top topic the next
two years of football alignment.
