A spokesman for Philip Anschutz denied published reports that the Denver investor is bidding to purchase three free daily newspapers on the East Coast.
The Boston Globe and Boston Phoenix cited unnamed sources as saying Anschutz’s Examiner newspaper chain was bidding on Metro Boston, Metro New York and Metro Philadelphia.
The Examiner chain operates free dailies in San Francisco; Washington, D.C.; and Baltimore.
