A woman found in her Longmont apartment up to two days after she died last month was strangled, the Boulder County coroner’s office said Thursday.
Dana Jo Pechin, 45, was found by Longmont police Dec. 10 in her apartment at 325 15th Ave. She died between the evening of Dec. 8 and the following day.
Pechin had moved there from a trailer in Longmont two weeks before she died.
Holly Perley, a friend of Pechin’s, said the woman was a kindhearted free spirit who supported herself by doing landscaping and other odd jobs.
When Perley’s daughter, Krissy, wanted to attend a pet parade, Pechin made a costume of purple sequins for the girl’s guinea pig.
“The guinea pig won a ribbon,” Perley remembered.
Longmont detectives continue to investigate. They have interviewed approximately 75 people and canvassed the area around the victim’s home.
Police are asking anyone who saw Pechin on the weekend she died or who witnessed a disturbance or assault in the area to call 303-651-8523.
