CALABASAS, Calif. — Countrywide Financial has sweetened annual bonus awards for a handful of top executives as an incentive for them to remain with the mortgage lender during the acquisition by Bank of America, according to regulatory filings Thursday.
Countrywide’s compensation committee did not designate a retention-incentive bonus for chief executive Angelo Mozilo. He already stands to walk away from the company with $66 million in retirement pay and stock holdings, according to estimates by Hay Group.
