Getting your player ready...

Paul Stastny practiced Thursday with his Avalanche teammates, another
seemingly routine day for the young all-star center. But not long
after practice was over, Stastny was rushed to a doctor for emergency
surgery to remove his appendix and will be out for 2-3 weeks.

It has been that kind of a season for the Avalanche.

“Paul experienced some pain in his abdominal area today,” Avs trainer Matt Sokolowski said. “Further examination by our medical staff following practice determined he needed the procedure. We expect him to make a full recovery.”

The Avs recalled rookie T.J. Hensick from Lake Erie of the American Hockey League in response to the injury.

It is the latest big injury blow to an Avalanche team already without Joe Sakic and Ryan Smyth. Stastny was the team’s first-line center and was starting to get his production going again after a recent slump.

He will miss the all-star game in Atlanta.
