DENVER—The House has tentatively approved a bill allowing Secretary of State Mike Coffman to retest and recertify the electronic voting equipment he disqualified last month.

The vote came Friday. The bill faces one more vote before it goes to the Senate.

It’s part of a stopgap solution to pull off this year’s election after most of the equipment used in the state failed to pass Coffman’s tests.

The allows county clerks to designate a representative to help with testing. It also allows the public to be present during the tests.

Lawmakers say Colorado will probably end up voting mostly by paper ballot this year, but some electronic equipment must be available for handicapped voters.
