Fix-up help for rental owners
The city of Arvada and FirstBank have teamed up to provide financial assistance to private rental property owners for improving smaller rental properties in the city.
The Rental Improvement Loan Program provides low-interest loans of up to $50,000 with flexible five- or 10-year repayment terms. The loans are offered with no appraisal fees, closing costs, document or loan-origination fees. The homes must be brought up to specified standards.

Old fridge could be a real prize
Have a really old refrigerator or other appliance sitting around that you don’t know what to do with?
You can enter it into APWagner’s North America’s Oldest Appliance Contest.
The winner will get three new Whirlpool appliances plus $1,000.
Don’t have an old appliance? Enter anyway with a new appliance. The craziest video entry will receive three new GE appliances plus $1,000.
To enter, submit a two-minute video of yourself and your appliance to by Jan. 31. Winners will be announced April 7.
Historical fund workshops
The State Historical Fund will hold a series of workshops to help people understand its grants program for historic preservation projects.
The grants can provide groups with the financial and technical support they need to save local history.
The workshops will be held:
• 11 a.m. Wednesday, Greeley Museum, 714 Eighth St., Greeley.
• 11 a.m. Jan. 29, El Pueblo Museum, 301 N. Union Ave., Pueblo.
• 11 a.m. Jan. 30, Ute Indian Museum, 17253 Chipeta Road, Montrose.
• 10 a.m. Jan. 31, Glenwood Springs City Hall, 101 W. Eighth St., Glenwood Springs.
• 9 a.m. Feb. 6, Mosque of the El Jebel Shrine, 1770 Sherman St., Denver.
Greenwood Village firm works with Stampede
Greenwood Village-based Alberta Development Partners is working with the Calgary Stampede to explore development of a main-street retail zone at Stampede Park, expected to turn the area into a year-round destination.
