NAME: Chuck Bailey
AGE: 72
OCCUPATION: Retired plumbing contractor
HOMETOWN: Arvada
POLITICAL AFFILIATION: Republican
POLITICAL BACKGROUND: Bailey said he walked away from active participation with the Republican Party almost 20 years ago after running for Congress and losing the backing of the party because he is pro-choice. He also ran as an uncommitted delegation candidate in 1976 to steal votes from another candidate he disagreed with.
ON HIS MIND: Bailey said he has one intention with his participation at the Feb. 5 caucus: agitate the party. The party’s delegates should wait to hear what the candidates can do for Colorado before committing to any of them at the national convention, he said. After not hearing from the GOP for three years, Bailey said it agitated him to hear his party leaders try to persuade him to vote for Mitt Romney as he was expected to win. Bailey said he supports the separation of church and state and believes Romney is hiding his Mormon-influenced political agenda with anti-abortion rhetoric.
YOUR POLITICAL TEMPERATURE: Hot
FINISH THIS SENTENCE: One thing I would change about presidential politics is . . . a president should have the strength to support fiscally responsible programs and the foresight to veto wasteful spending.
To participate in the Colorado caucuses, you must have been a registered Democrat or Republican by Dec. 5, 2007. For information, go to for Democrats and for Republicans.
