Former Jefferson County Sheriff Russ Cook was held in Arapahoe County’s jail this afternoon after being arrested on a felony warrant for stalking in Colorado Springs, authorities said.
Cook resigned as sheriff in 2003.
He was being held in Arapahoe until he could be transferred to El Paso County, the sheriff’s bureau chief, Phil Spence said.
Details of the arrest warrant were not available, Colorado Springs police Lt. Skip Arms said.
Cook was arrested by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on an outstanding warrant for domestic violence involving stalking, Spence said. He was held in Arapahoe and was being kept out of contact with other jail inmates because of his previous job as Jefferson’s sheriff, Spence said.
Cook has battled alcohol problems in the past, according to news reports.
