AURORA, Colo.—Two children were inside a home when a man killed a woman Monday in “a gruesome crime,” police said.

Several weapons were found in and around the south-Aurora home where the woman was killed, said Detective Bob Friel, a department spokesman. The man suspected of the crime was arrested at the home shortly after 2 p.m.

Police didn’t release the names of the suspect or victim and declined to say what type of weapon was used in the slaying.

“It was a gruesome crime scene,” Friel said.

The two children at the home, who are between the ages of 3 and 5, were unhurt and are with police while relatives are found to take care of them, Friel said.

“I know there will be questions about what the kids saw. I can’t get into it,” he said.

Friel said the man and woman were a couple, but couldn’t elaborate on their relationship or if the two children were theirs.

Police put tape around the home where the woman was found and the house next door, where the couple were moving, Friel said.
