Anthoney Hill wanted a job on the new Colorado State football staff earlier this month when he interviewed. The offer came later than expected, but the former Rams quarterback didn’t hesitate.
“It was a no-brainer for me,” Hill said Wednesday from San Diego, where he wrapped up one of his last days as a teacher and high school head coach. “It still hasn’t sunken in.”
Hill will coach the running backs and receivers. Recruiting coordinator Greg Peterson takes over as offensive coordinator for first-year head coach Steve Fairchild.
A week after Curtin Modkins was named offensive coordinator/running backs coach, he left CSU to rejoin his Georgia Tech boss, Chan Gailey, with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Hill plans to be at work by this weekend.
“I told him I’d coach the holders if he let me,” Hill said of Fairchild. “I have a great deal of respect for every coach who came through there, and I want to be a part of CSU any way I can. I hear they have a good stable of backs.”
Hill finished his CSU career in 1994, leading the Rams to their first WAC title. He returned to CSU in 1998 to finish his degree as an undergraduate assistant. He coached at several San Diego schools and most recently took over a downtrodden San Diego High School program that finished 1-8 and had only 25 players at the end of the season.
