Affordable units set for W. Colfax

A group of public, private and nonprofit organizations is working to provide affordable housing along the West Colfax transit corridor.

Newsed Community Development Corp., Enterprise Community Partners, the Urban Land Conservancy, the city and county of Denver and the Colorado Division of Housing paid $3 million for a 62-unit apartment complex at 5375 W. 10th Ave., just 500 feet from the future transit stop at West 11th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard. The complex will become permanent, long-term affordable housing.

Eagle County invests in affordable housing

Eagle County is teaming up with Meritage Development Group to build an affordable-housing project in Gypsum.

The county is investing $4.5 million in Stratton Flats, a 336-unit project that will include 226 units with deed restrictions.

The project will include 152 single-family homes, 118 townhomes and 69 condominiums. A one-bedroom restricted condo is expected to sell for about $165,000.

The county will receive its $4.5 million investment plus 6 percent at the end of the project.

Moving help for retirees

The developer and manager of Wind Crest in Highlands Ranch has created a national realty and moving company to help retirees sell their houses and move to Erikson Retirement Community campuses.

Erikson Realty & Moving Services works with retirees to help them establish sales prices for their homes. Marketing assistance is also provided, as are logistical services related to moving.

Coping with swelling soil

The Colorado Geological Survey has released “A Guide to Swelling Soil for Colorado Homebuyers and Home owners,” second edition.

The booklet offers steps homeowners can take to protect themselves against swelling soil, including designing and building a home to withstand swelling soil movements, how to recognize swelling soil damage and how to landscape property to manage water and reduce soil movement and damage.
