Colorado will hold its presidential caucuses Feb. 5. Between now and then, we’ll introduce you to a few of the people who might participate in the process.
NAME:Lloyd and Robyn Pearson and one of their daughters, Rachel Eidson
AGES:52, 52 and 21
OCCUPATION: Lloyd is on disability, Robyn is an executive assistant at St. Joseph Hospital, and Eidson is preparing to meet her husband in Fort Hood, Texas, after his Iraq deployment.
HOMETOWN:Arvada
POLITICAL AFFILIATION:Republicans
POLITICAL BACKGROUND:The Pearsons lived in Las Vegas until their 3-year-old daughter asked what a “whorehouse” was after seeing an ad for the musical, “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.” They moved to Colorado and have been actively involved in the campaigns of candidates they said have strong moral values. Eidson, who was an officer with the Young Republicans at Metropolitan State College of Denver, followed in her parents’ footsteps. This will be her first caucus.
ON THEIR MINDS: The trio said they plan to support Mitt Romney on Feb. 5. Lloyd receives disability payments because of debilitating arthritis, so Social Security is the most important issue for him. He said he would support a program that would reinvest Social Security money into increasing worker productivity, so future generations aren’t left with such a huge debt. Robyn said she needs a candidate with strong moral values because she is tired of her grandchildren seeing degrading filth at every turn; she believes Romney is that candidate. Eidson, whose husband is stationed in Iraq with the Army, said she supports Romney because she believes in the war effort and thinks Romney will keep her husband safe with his handling of the war.
RATE YOUR POLITICAL TEMPERATURE:Red hot
FINISH THIS SENTENCE:One thing I would change about presidential politics is . . . “I would get rid of the concept of Iowa and New Hampshire taking up the rest of the nation,” Lloyd Pearson said. “I don’t know what in the world those citizens get every election cycle to whittle down the candidates for the rest of us. I would like to see a rotation of front-runner states.”
